Il nome d’arte nasce da un’intuizione dello stesso Cecchetto e di un esordiente Gerry Scotti, che scelgono di omaggiare l’attore Spencer Tracy invertendone nome e cognome. Nell’estate successiva, la cantante torna al Festivalbar con Take me back, estratto dall’album d’esordio Tracy. Louise Tracy Freeman, known to all as Tracy Spencer, remains one of the brightest faces (and voices) of the 1980s Italo-disco era. Born in Halifax, England, her Italian career began in front of the camera, appearing in cult films such as The Coach in the Ball and The Wedding Planner. But it was her 1985 meeting with Claudio Cecchetto that changed her life: the producer sensed her charisma and decided to bring her into the recording studio.

Her stage name was born from an idea by Cecchetto himself and a newcomer, Gerry Scotti, who chose to pay homage to actor Spencer Tracy by reversing his first and last name. Under the aegis of Radio Deejay, Spencer dominated the summer of 1986 with the hit “Run to Me.” The success was overwhelming: the song won the Festivalbar and reached the top of the singles chart, dethroning a superstar of Madonna’s caliber. Curiously, the song—an Italian hit—had already been recorded a year earlier by Ray Foster, but it went unnoticed.

Her career continued in November of the same year with “Love Is Like a Game,” a song written by Ivana Spagna (already released by Hot Cold in 1985), which proved to be a commercial success during the winter of 1986-1987. The following summer, the singer returned to the Festivalbar with “Take Me Back,” taken from her debut album, Tracy.
