GAZNEVADA, UN AMORE PER L’ELETTRONICA

Nel 1977 a Bologna succede qualcosa di grande e irripetibile. In città c’è un gran fermento, una grande voglia di sperimentare, la nuova onda sta per travolgere un’intera generazione.

I Gaznevada iniziano in quel magico anno, suonano una miscela fantastica di musica elettronica intrisa di funk e punk. Poi c’è il lato ‘italo-disco’che si svilupperà soprattutto negli anni ’80. Alcuni dicono che il nome scelto sia ispirato da “Nevada Gas”, un racconto di Raymond Chandler e il loro debutto discografico risale al 1979 con un album intitolato semplicemente con il nome del gruppo. È nel 1980 che i Gaznevada si impongono come una delle band più innovative, grazie a “Sick Soundtrack”, album inserito nella lista dei 100 migliori dischi italiani di sempre compilata dall’autorevole rivista Rolling Stone.

Negli anni successivi la new wave dei Gaznevada guarda più verso sonorità pop e dance fino a trasformarsi in una forma di italo-disco alternativa. Nel 1983 esce l’album “Psicopatico Party” che contiene il ‘riempipista’  “I.C. Love Affair”. Da qui in poi accade di tutto, Festivalbar, televisione, radio, concerti, pubblico e critica tutti d’accordo.

Da qualche anno Ciro Pagano e Marco Bongiovanni, componenti originali dei Gaznevada, sono tornati sulla scena musicale e quest’anno è uscito il film documentario diretto da Lisa Bosi (la stessa del film documentario Disco Ruin) intitolato “Going Underground” dedicato alla storia del gruppo bolognese. “Going Underground” ha vinto il premio come ‘Miglior Documentario’ al SeeYouSound International Music Film Festival di Torino e, per l’occasione, è uscito “After the Human Race”, EP con tre tracce inedite. 

GAZNEVADA, A LOVE FOR ELECTRONICS 

In 1977 something great and unrepeatable is happening in Bologna. There is a great ferment in the city, a great desire to experiment, the new wave is about to sweep an entire generation. The Gaznevada start in that magical year, they play a fantastic blend of electronic music steeped in funk and punk. Then there is the ‘italo-disco’ side that will develop especially in the 1980s. Some say the name they chose was inspired by “Nevada Gas,” a Raymond Chandler short story, and their recording debut was in 1979 with an album titled simply by the group’s name. It was in 1980 that Gaznevada emerged as one of the most innovative bands, thanks to “Sick Soundtrack”, an album included in the list of the 100 best Italian records ever compiled by the authoritative Rolling Stone magazine.

In the following years Gaznevada’s new wave looked more toward pop and dance sounds until it turned into a form of alternative Italo-disco. In 1983 the album “Psychopathic Party” was released, containing the ‘floorfiller’ “I.C. Love Affair.” From here on everything happens, Festivalbar, television, radio, concerts, public and critics all agree. A few years ago Ciro Pagano and Marco Bongiovanni, the original members of Gaznevada, returned to the music scene, and this year a documentary film directed by Lisa Bosi (the same as the documentary film Disco Ruin) entitled “Going Underground” dedicated to the history of the Bologna-based band.

“Going Underground” won the award for ‘Best Documentary’ at the SeeYouSound International Music Film Festival in Torino and, to mark the occasion, “After the Human Race,” an EP with three previously unreleased tracks, was released.
